Why You Shouldn't Wait Until Fall to Book Your Senior Pictures

I know... Fall is gorgeous.

The leaves are changing, the weather cools off, and everyone starts thinking, "This would be the perfect time for senior pictures."

And don't get me wrong... I LOVE fall sessions.

But here's the thing... So does everyone else.

Every year, I get messages around the end of September that say something like,

"Do you have anything open next weekend?"

And every year, I wish I could say yes.

The reality is, fall fills up FAST.

Between weddings, family sessions, and seniors trying to beat yearbook deadlines, my calendar gets booked before the leaves even start changing.

If you're thinking about senior pictures in the fall, my biggest advice is simple... Book them early.

Even if your session isn't until October, getting your date on the calendar months ahead of time gives you way more options and takes the stress out of trying to squeeze something in at the last minute.

Another thing people don't always think about is editing time. Your gallery doesn't magically appear the next day.

I spend a lot of time going through every image, hand-editing them, and making sure they're perfect before they ever land in your inbox. That takes time, especially during my busiest season.

If your school has a yearbook deadline, you'll want to make sure your session is early enough that we have plenty of time to get everything edited and submitted without anyone stressing.

Now... Does that mean you should skip summer? Absolutely not.

Summer is actually one of my favorite times to photograph seniors.

Everything is green, the sunsets are incredible, wildflowers are blooming, and you're not trying to squeeze your session in between football games, volleyball matches, homework, and every other thing that comes with the school year.

Some of my favorite senior galleries have been taken in July and August.

And here's a little secret...

You don't need bright orange leaves for beautiful photos.

Golden fields.

Tall grass.

Wildflowers.

Downtown streets.

Beautiful evening light.

Those things never go out of style.

At the end of the day, the season matters a whole lot less than the experience. My goal is to create photos that feel like YOU, whether we're chasing wildflowers in July or crunching through leaves in October.

So if senior pictures have been sitting on your to-do list, don't wait until everyone else starts thinking about them too.

Future you will be so happy you booked early.

And honestly...

Your mom probably will be too. 😉
