What Should I Wear for Senior Pictures? | A Senior Girl's Outfit Guide

I swear this is the number one question I get.

"

Jess... what the heck am I supposed to wear?"

Girlllll... don't overthink it.

Seriously.

You do not need to go spend $500 on a whole new wardrobe. Half the time, my favorite outfit from a senior session is something they already had hanging in their closet.

Here's my biggest piece of advice... Wear something that actually feels like you.

If you live in jeans and a cute tank top, let's embrace that. If you're a dress girlie, bring the flowy dress. If you're somewhere in between, perfect. Your senior pictures should look like YOU, not some Pinterest board you found five minutes before your session.

One thing I always tell my seniors is to bring a few different vibes.

Maybe one outfit is cute and dressy, another is casual, and another shows off your personality a little more. It gives your gallery so much variety, and you'll be surprised how different each outfit feels once we start shooting.

Now let's talk colors. Neutrals photograph beautifully, and they'll never go out of style. Think whites, creams, denim, sage green, black, or earthy colors.

That doesn't mean you can't wear color! If your favorite top is bright blue and it makes you feel amazing, bring it. I just recommend staying away from really busy patterns or giant logos because they can be distracting in photos.

And please... Don't forget your shoes. I know, I know. Everyone spends forever picking outfits and then throws on whatever sandals were sitting by the back door.

Your shoes are in more photos than you think!

Another thing I LOVE is when seniors bring things that are actually part of their life right now.

Bring your letter jacket.

Bring your cheer poms.

Bring your soccer ball.

Bring your guitar.

Bring your FFA jacket.

Bring the things that make people say, "Yep... that's so you."

Those are the photos you'll love even more ten years from now.

The night before your session, do yourself one favor. Lay everything out.

Steam your clothes, make sure you have the right shoes, throw your jewelry in a little bag, and double-check that nothing still has tags hanging off of it. Future you will be very thankful.

Now here's the part I really want you to hear...

You do not have to know how to pose. Like... at all. I can't tell you how many girls show up saying, "I'm awkward in pictures."By the end of their session they're laughing, dancing around, and saying, "Wait... that was actually fun."

That's because posing is my job, not yours.

I'll tell you exactly where to stand, what to do with your hands, where to look, and I'll probably make you laugh a few times along the way.

My goal isn't to make you look like everyone else.

My goal is for someone to look at your gallery and immediately say, "That is SO her."

And honestly? Those are always my favorite sessions.

If you're looking for a senior photographer in Janesville, Edgerton, Beloit, Milton, or anywhere around southern Wisconsin, I'd absolutely love to help you create a session that feels like YOU.

We'll plan outfits together, pick the perfect location, and make this one of those memories you'll always look back on and smile.

I promise... we've got this.
